SpectraFlow Analytics says it has received an order for one SpectraFlow Crossbelt Analyzer from BHP for its majority-owned Escondida copper mine in Antofagasta, Chile.
Escondida is the largest copper mine in the world and the world’s largest producer of copper concentrate and cathodes.
BHP owns 57.5% of the operation, while Rio Tinto (30%) and JECO (12.5%) are also part of this joint venture.
Escondida’s two pits feed three concentrator plants, as well as two leaching operations (oxide and sulphide).
BHP is one of the world’s largest mining companies, and with this first analyser order, SpectraFlow Analytics reaches another milestone in providing its safe near infrared (NIR) online analyser solutions to all major mining players worldwide, the company says.
In addition to the Escondida copper mine, SpectraFlow has also installed an analyser at Anglo American’s Los Bronces copper mine in Chile.
SpectraFlow calls itself a leading supplier of NIR-based online analysers for the mining industry, with over 100 installations across the globe.
In addition to copper, SpectraFlow provides online analysis solutions to the cement, iron ore, gold, platinum, potash, bauxite, phosphate and recycling industries, continuously broadening application fields within these sectors.
This order raises SpectraFlow’s global installed base to over 100 analysers (60% Crossbelt & 40% Airslide) across 30 countries on all continents.
