John Deere revealed an autonomous articulated dump truck (ADT) for quarry operations in the 460 P-Tier. Unveiling the ADT at CES 2025 alongside other autonomous equipment – including two tractors and a mower – John Deere says the ADT will handle the repetitive tasks of transporting material around a quarry to facilitate different steps in the cycle. The machine is managed via the John Deere Operations Center Mobile, the company’s cloud-based platform. By swiping left to right to start, the company says the machine can be started once placed in the appropriate spot. Through the app, users also have access to live video, images, data and metrics, as well as the ability to adjust factors like speed. In the event of any job quality anomalies or machine health issues, users will be notified remotely so they can make necessary adjustments.Â
New tech integrated into popular dozer model
Caterpillar unveiled a new D8 dozer featuring added technology. As an example, Cat says the D8’s elevated sprocket offers better ride and balance than low-drive undercarriages. The Cat C15 engine, meanwhile, offers an increase in horsepower over the previous build to take on a range of dozing, ripping and grading tasks. Additionally, the D8 cab now offers more space than the previous design, providing 17 percent more visibility than the previous design. Also, Cat says assist-technology features minimize operator input, boost productivity for less experienced operators and decrease effort and fatigue.
Herringbone wing pulley line gets an update

Precision Pulley & Idler (PPI) enhanced its herringbone wing pulley offering, reintroducing it in two styles: plate constructed and round contact bar. According to PPI, the new plate-constructed line replaces its CEMA herringbone wing. The round contact bar style remains unchanged with the same availability. PPI says the expanded size range of the plate-constructed herringbone wing allows the pulleys to be utilized in a broader range of applications. In addition to the expanded size offering, PPI reengineered the top arc of the wings to improve the interaction with the face of the pulley as it makes contact with the belt. Also, PPI increased wing quantities in certain sizes to provide better belt support.
